Day #2 is in the books!

We arrived at the basketball complex about 8:45 AM and got ready for about 50 campers and a clinic at 9 AM which ran until 11:30 AM. It was filled with various stations on ballhandling, shooting, defense, decision making, and a competition. We would give an explanation to the entire group, and then split the groups to the four baskets and our counsellors/team members would go to work drilling the skills.

The greatest opportunity of the day came around 1:00 PM following lunch where three of our guys began our teaching presentations in giving the gospel to these campers. Our focus is one subject each day: Today: sin, Tomorrow: Judgment of sin, and Monday, God’s love and the redemption available through Jesus Christ. Colin, Malachi, and Trevor did an excellent job of sharing key verses where God us what sin is: anything we think, say, or do that displeases or disobeys God’s law. They concluded their sessions by opening it up for questions and we had many good conversations with the young people. Please pray with us that God will take the Word of God given and through His Holy Spirit bring conviction to these young people and on Monday when an invitation is given, they will step forward and receive Jesus Christ.

Following our devotionals, we played a game against their top players (mostly 17-18 year olds). We had some challenges with the rain and had to stop the game for about fifteen minutes, but the skies cleared and we were able to finish the game. The guys are doing well battling the heat, struggling with basketball “shape,” and connecting and playing well together, but some good progress was made there today.

Saturday will be a repeat of today with the clinic in the morning and then our devotionals after lunch (approximately 8 AM CST). Please pray for these times: for our players that speak, for the interpreters, for the message to resonate with these listeners.
